Occasionally Studio Stitches is contacted with an unusal request:

- Can you help with making a bag to carry my dog in?

The dog lost a leg in an accident, and the owner wanted something to carry the dog when they went hill walking.

The owner had tried many bags and designs, finally deciding on a design that would work for both of them. The dog is large so for stability, it would need to feel secure when being carried.

The first bag we made together was too roomy and not supportive enough for the dogs spine and definitely not worth showing here.

This second bag is better. It is a toddler carry bag so has the strength to hold the dog. It is free standing which makes it easier to get on and off. It has rigid sides which will help to support the spine. The dog will sit with it's legs through the holes and its one front paw on the owner's shoulders.

The first stage is to make the leg holes. These have been cut and bound with cotton covered quilting wadding for comfort. We are going to test this. I've left quite a large area intact at the top of the hole, as this will be working hard supporting the spine. If it's too narrow, then it may break. If the bag is not long enough for the dog, the second stage will be lengthening the bag.

Studio Stitches is committed to recyling where possible. We believe a postal package is just a vehicle to transport goods. While other brands and companies focus on creating waste with unnecessary packaging and wrapping "because it looks nice", we re-use and re-use until there's more tape than package. It does not devalue the contents or reduce the customer excitement of recieving our packages, and it's good for the planet.

I was recently asked to make a tiny shirt, for a much loved bunny. the shirt was made from a gentleman's shirt, and he wanted to give it to his wife for their wedding anniversary. He wored the shirt on their honeymoon and many memories for both him and his wife are attached to it. unable to wear the shirt anymore, and to keep these memories alive, he asked me to make a tiny shirt for his wife;s bunny.

I made an exact as possible copy of the shirt, with pleated back, pleated and vented sleeves, buttoned cuffs, tiny pocket and shaped hem.

Happy Anniversary!

Just finished a series of 10 sewing tutorials for the lovely Yvonne in Singapore.

Isn't the internet great - being able to work with anyone anywhere, and getting paid in various currencies.

Yvonne's feedback

Love Suzanne's commitment, creativity, effort and delivered the project on time. Simply awesome! Highly recommended.
